Donations for Action Aid campaign in Isiolo County

13-05-2021 by redazione

The world of Italian professional football has decided to help NGO Action Aid in its campaign to support the right to clean water for all children, and last night brought the message "Give water to its future" to the football fields of the 36th day of the Serie A championship.
In all the green lawns of the stadiums, at the beginning of each match, the campaign banners with the invitation to donate entered midfield.
The SMS solidarity campaign "Give water to his future" aims to support families in the most vulnerable areas of Kenya, in particular in Isiolo County, hit hard by the climate crisis and the health and economic impact of the pandemic.
ActionAid has been working for years with the world of sport and football to promote projects for social inclusion and the fight against poverty. From the initiatives for the 2014 World Cup to the 2016 Olympics, in which the association promoted sport as a means of social redemption for young people and to raise awareness of the right to food.
One of the campaign's testimonials is former Inter, Roma and Italian national team footballer Marco Delvecchio, who has already been to Africa with Action Aid.
Through my travels, I have come to know at first hand the life of the most fragile communities, where every day children have to get up to help their families and find food and drink," said Delvecchio. "One of the best experiences was carrying 30-40 litre jerrycans of water for miles around. It was an impressive effort, with the water falling on the ground, while the girls walked calmly with their necks straight. Today, in the midst of a pandemic, water makes even more of a difference between life and death, so donating a 2 euro text message for the children of Kenya is a concrete and necessary gesture".
With a text message or a call from a landline to the charity number 45511, everyone will be able to make a contribution to support ActionAid's project to guarantee clean water for children and families in the most vulnerable areas of Kenya, where the organisation has been working for almost 50 years. The solidarity initiative runs until 20 June and the funds raised will be used to finance improvements to water systems to ensure access to water for human consumption and agricultural activities even in the dry season.? The direct beneficiaries will be over 5,000, including children attending the local primary school.
ActionAid will first of all rehabilitate a dam, equipping it with a solar-powered pumping system that will deliver clean water to storage tanks located near the school and community farms. Another component of the project will be community education through the promotion of good sanitation practices and sustainable management of natural resources.
