PREVENTION

Following Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta's announcement of the 21-day closure of the three coastal counties (Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi) and part of the urban and suburban area of Nairobi for 21 days, with a de facto impossibility since last night to leave the capital and since Wednesday night to move through the coastal regions or get there from outside, the country is taking action on several levels for the emergencies and priorities that arise from these restrictions.
Firstly, to equip as many citizens as possible with protective masks.
You know, we are in Africa and it is unthinkable to equip the population with disposable masks, unless they come with incredible equipment, so as Kenyatta himself advised, we need to accelerate the production process of fabric masks washable and reusable, explaining well how to use and wash them (boiling water and soap) and possibly iron them.
In the meantime, many tailors have taken action and special praise is due to those who manage to keep cost prices down. Then there are the associations, of which we have already mentioned, and private individuals.
In Malindi, for example, in addition to the NGO Karibuni, the owners of Eden House and the tailors Mufaddal Shabbir and Shakir are at work, but others have proposed and will evaluate their production time, delivery and prices.
In the meantime, thanks to the donations received from our readers and from Italian residents and not in Kenya, we have decided to buy fabrics (mainly cotton, if not 100% at least) and deliver them to trusted tailors for small productions or to the same workshops they are already producing. We would like to thank all the donors who, after the first important deliveries to the employees of the Market and the Municipality, have sent small and large contributions in order to be able to continue the production that for us is nothing without awareness. Explain with the motto "I protect you, you protect me" that we must all use masks if we want them to really work, especially in closed environments.
We will continue to update you, our Mpesa number is 0720178982
