Kenya among winter's most popular destinations

Aiming to return to pre-pandemic numbers

10-11-2022 by Freddie del Curatolo

Kenya is definitely one of the most popular destinations for Italians for the coming winter.
This is confirmed by searches on hospitality websites and flight bookings that are inevitably driving up prices, with airlines organising to add flights, including direct charters from Italy to Mombasa.
Another significant fact is the return of offers for the Kenyan coast in travel agencies, even for impromptu hotel+safari packages and for so-called 'tailor-made' holidays that can combine two or more of the particularities in which Kenya excels (e.g, the possibility of enjoying in ten days the sight of animals in their natural habitat of the savannah and at the same time a holiday on tropical beaches, but also on tours that combine the Masai Mara, elected the best natural park in the world for five consecutive years, and the great volcanic lakes of the Rift Valley, the cradle of humanity). This makes Kenya unique and does not limit it to a simple alternative to purely seaside African locations such as Zanzibar, Cape Verde or the Egyptian Riviera.
Another positive fact concerns the country's security. After the August elections and the final results announced a month later, Kenya has shown a show of maturity and put to rest the rumours and media that want it to be unstable and insecure. The tourist destinations in particular are also considered by international institutions to be among the safest and most peaceful places on the African continent.
Watamu and Diani are particularly in demand, while Samburu and Amboseli are the emerging parks that rival the more frequented and popular Tsavo East and Masai Mara.
Demand is high, even if pre-pandemic levels have not yet been reached. The economic crisis and uncertainty about the future, as well as the always complicated rules for travelling, are still limiting holidays. It is too early to know how long the winter season will last on the coast, apart from the sure presences of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The long wave of tourism that materialised in 2020, until that unfortunate March that brought everything to a halt, is a dream that could at least partly be realised.
