Kenya's athletes took centre stage at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which arrived a year behind schedule because of the pandemic.
Each team representing the nation of origin, during the parade in the stadium of the Japanese capital has raised its flag with two testimonials, woman and man, but Kenya has done much more by dressing its athletes with traditional Maasai clothes, known throughout the world and obviously immediately related to the primordial beauty and traditions of this country. The Kenyan team, comprising 49 women and 38 men, paraded in the middle of the ceremony, opened as usual by the Greek athletes, followed by those of the host nation, and distinguished themselves by having the athletes wear the classic red-blue mantle, while the men combined a shirt in the same colours with black trousers.
Thousands of photos were taken, making the African state, famous for its champions in the field of running, especially marathon and middle-distance running, the most media-savvy of the 204 countries represented, with a total of 11,000 participants.
The Olympic Games officially opened yesterday, Saturday 24, and will close on Sunday 8 August.
