The main artery of Malindi, the central Lamu Road, which is in fact also a 'highway', has been closed since yesterday for road resurfacing works. While the news is good and desired by many, starting with the tourist and commercial sectors, and ending with citizens and residents who own cars, the situation certainly creates inconvenience.
Indeed, not only public transport vehicles such as tuk tuk and matatu have to change their routes, but also lorries and articulated lorries, which are required to use alternative routes. If for vehicles coming from outside Malindi the most logical situation is to detour at the slaughterhouse (former BP Petrol Station) and take the cobbled road (cabro) to the exit at the Ola petrol station, for those who have to go to banks or businesses it is already more problematic, because the roads parallel to Lamu Road are unpaved and full of puddles and mud. It is better to use the Majengo Road. Coming from Mambrui, turn in front of the Meridian Hospital (formerly Galana) and continue to the cemetery.
The KENHA (government highways company) has not announced the timing of the resurfacing of the central road in Malindi, for sure the work will be quick, rains permitting, so that we will arrive before the start of the peak tourist season with a more than decent situation.
