Malindi seafront, at least we have the road

Re-tarmacking complete, now other infrastructures

15-06-2020 by redazione

Finally, after years of waiting and many battles, pleas, pressure, a tangible result obtained: the road along the Malindi promenade has been resurfaced.
The now legendary, disheartening and unfortunately identifying holes of one of the most representative routes of the town have been archived to an unforgettable memory and nothing more.
The result of which we of the Progress Welfare Association of Malindi rightly believe ourselves to be part of the merit, has been achieved in these days after the municipality of Malindi was asked to speed up work that should have already been completed but that due to the Covid-19 emergency had been postponed.
In short, it seemed yet another twist of fate for Malindi that, even when everything finally seems to go in one direction by bringing together actors and factors that often do not coincide, it never manages to take a decisive step forward with the infrastructure.
It's a relief for the many activities that overlook the Seafront Road and that finally can applaud the joint efforts of the County, Town Hall and associations and for 7the residents who like and need to go from the waterfront to connect from one side of the town to the other.
We must surely thank for this the Chief Engineer of the Municipality, Nicodemus Kerongo who spent himself in first person for the resumption of the works, the Equistar company who kept his commitments and all the volunteers who have been on the field in recent months, from the late Charles "CM Steel" Muriungi to Naran Dhanji, Mayor Aliasgar Kassamjee, PWAM coordinator Kate Mwikali and us in Malindikenya. net, as well as the County which has kept its commitments to finance the entire project which also includes the asphalting of the section from Silversand to Driftwood.
Now even those who had sentenced "we will never have a new waterfront road" will have to admit that finally a major renovation has been completed.
There's no stopping, that's clear, eyes and efforts are projected on the continuation of the seafront redevelopment works, financed by the World Bank under the supervision of the British High Commissioner. It is hoped that, rain permitting, the work can resume as soon as possible to deliver to Malindi a public area that can become a meeting point, safe walks and a postcard if not fascinating, at least decent of the always talked about, but ultimately loved and eternal Malindi.
