Kenya's new President William Ruto has released the full list of ministers in his government.
There are no members of Uhuru Kenyatta's previous administration, of which Ruto was also the deputy, with the exception of Energy Minister David Chirchir, who had held the same position in Kenyatta and Ruto's first legislature.
The big news that closely concerns Italian business is the appointment of Peninah Malonzo, former deputy governor of Kitui County, as the new Minister of Tourism. Malonza replaces the 20-year incumbent of the ministry Najib Balala, who had brazenly proposed himself to Ruto in order 'to continue the work undertaken and carry forward the programmes'. Programmes that have never convinced especially the tourism sector on the coast, particularly the indifference shown towards the Malindi international airport and the opening to international airlines in Mombasa, implementing the much-hyped 'open sky policy'.
In other important roles, former Machakos governor Alfred Mutua will hold the position of Foreign Minister, while former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has been promoted to Public Service Minister. Another surprise, foreign policy expert Ababu Namwamba, who seemed the predestined for foreign affairs, has been diverted to Sports, a ministry that Ruto cares a lot about anyway.
