The winter season in the West is already a concrete goal. The period that starts as early as November, with the first public holidays, and makes European tourists' desire to dream of exotic destinations explode right up to the Christmas peak, warm destinations where they can recover from the freezing temperatures that have never before been combined with environmental disasters as in recent years, influences not only the choices of tour operators, but also that of airlines that are trying to open new breaches, especially in markets that are ready, available and cheap.
Kenya is a very desirable destination this year, due to its stable political situation, its weak currency against the euro and dollar, and its great attractiveness (we will never tire of saying this, the only tourist destination that can offer sea and safaris just a few hours' land away and at prices that elsewhere, starting with neighbouring Tanzania, are unattainable).
It is an important moment, a 'break' with the recent past for Kenya, which is trying to get back to opening its airports to as many as possible.
In the coming weeks there could be many surprises, after several national and charter airlines have applied to land at Mombasa. One can fly to the coast via Dubai and Doha, as well as via Ethiopia, while the possibility of a direct connection between Belgium and Great Britain slips to next year.
It was only a few days ago, for instance, that tourists from faraway Lithuania and neighbouring countries (Poland) will soon be connected with flights of GetJet Airlines, a low-cost airline that has entered into cooperation with one of Central Europe's largest tour operators ITAKA. For the entire winter season, and for the first time in the history of the two countries, there will be direct flights from Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, and Mombasa (with a technical stopover in Hurgada). In addition to this novelty, flights from suspended destinations such as Prague (with a Polish connection) are also expected to resume, while obviously the ongoing war has stopped the arrival of Ukrainian tourists, who hope soon to see African sunlight again, and above all a return to a life without pain and fear.
The most important announcement, which also concerns connections from Italy, however, is yet to come, and should be that of the Turkish national airline. The re-establishment of the Istanbul-Mombasa route, with connections to at least 13 Italian airports, which in the past has been one of the most booked flights by our compatriots, is not yet on the calendar, while Ethiopian, as we have announced in recent weeks, has doubled the daily connections between Addis Ababa and Kenya's second city.
Finally, the connections between London and Mombasa, via Nairobi but with a single ticket, with Kenya Airways also doubled. London will be reachable from Rome and Milan thanks to an agreement between the Kenyan company and ITA, as already happens with the airports of Paris and Amsterdam.
We will see if more news will be announced before November.
