Seriousless cases and vaccines: Kenya is going better

68 thousands of doses injected on 24th august

26-08-2021 by redazione

There is an air of return to normality in Kenya, after months and months of restrictions and hospitals close to collapse.
Almost all health workers have also had their second dose of the vaccine and the police are also well on their way.
Also for this reason, the arrival of the new vaccines from Great Britain (880 thousand additional doses from Moderna) are only minimally available to all, because priority was given to recalls, especially for front-line and vulnerable groups.
More vaccines are now expected, and it is hoped that Pfizer batches arriving from the US via the African Union under the Covax programme will also land this week.
24 August was one of the most prolific days for the administration of vaccines: 68,000 were inoculated.
The percentage of fully vaccinated adults is about to reach 3%.
These numbers are still low, but it is hoped that with the arrival of a million and a half doses in several tranches from the end of the month to mid-September, the process will speed up and the situation will improve.
In the meantime, patient monitoring continues in the country, and according to the data reaching the government through the Kenya Medical Research Center, serious cases are slightly decreasing, and this is also shown by the stable number of patients admitted to intensive care units, which are 153, of which only 29 need intensive care and supplementary oxygen.
The percentage of new cases, observed after 1258 positives out of 9,868 swabs taken in the last 24 hours, has fallen to 12.7%.
There was a small outbreak during the World Athletics Championships for young people under 20. Jamaica's national team was placed in isolation and asked not to leave the country after nine members tested positive for the virus. As a result, all international delegations, including the Italian one, were checked. Many athletes, however, had already left the country and consequently had already taken the compulsory swab to leave Kenya, and had been found negative for Covid-19. In the last 24 hours, also because of the hotspot in the sports citadel in Nairobi, 55 foreigners were infected.
As for the deaths, since yesterday 36 new deaths related to the virus have been recorded, but as often happens in these cases, most of them refer to reports arrived late in the database of the ministry, and as reiterated by the same official statement of Minister Mutahi Kagwe, refer to the month of July and early August. The total number of deaths in Kenya rose to 4,600.
