Chief Justice Martha Koome of the Supreme Court of Kenya read out a few minutes ago the ruling that confirmed the result of the presidential election on 9 August, namely the election of the new President of the Republic, William Ruto.
The outgoing Vice President is officially in charge of the country and will be presented to the nation at an official inauguration ceremony on 13 September. The court's seven judges unanimously rejected the appeals filed by the Azimio La Umoja coalition headed by opposition leader Raila Odinga. Odinga and his people had raised questions about the authenticity of the data provided electronically and then transmitted manually, the intrusion of possible hackers into the vote transmission portal, and the conduct described as arbitrary by the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission Wafula Chebukati. None of the petitions submitted were granted. For now, no protests are reported in the country.
