Terrorist tragedy in Garissa, in northern Kenya, at least 147 people are reported to have died in an attack on the university, attended by both Islamic and Christian students.
The attack in Garissa is a very serious terrorist attack of Somali origin, Garissa has long been one of the cities most at risk in Kenya among those close to the border with the troubled state where Islamic fundamentalism lurks.
At least 147 people are confirmed dead, including the terrorists themselves and many of the hostages that the militiamen of al Shabaab, a group affiliated to al-Qaeda, had been holding at gunpoint inside the university and engaging in shootouts with the police until last night. There are said to be about eighty wounded and another hundred people are missing, including those who escaped and the freed Islamists.
Garissa is not one of the areas frequented by Westerners, and even less so by tourists, but unfortunately it is home to many Christians, who are the target of reprisals by the Somalis because they are identified with Kenya and its population, which has invaded their territories.
This is not a religious feud, but a political and territorial dispute. In any case, what is terrible and very serious is that many young and innocent lives have been uprooted.
