It was September 10, 2018, fifteen months ago Malindikenya.net found Checco Zalone in Watamu, during a vacation that we already assumed exploratory for a future film. (Read the article here) Nothing yet was known about "Tolo Tolo", the new film by the Italian comedian slaughterer that from today, finally, is in cinemas all over Italy and will bring visions of Malindi and Kenya everywhere.
Since that September, a machine has been set in motion which, thanks to location and casting manager Antonio De Feo, in turn director and producer, has landed in Malindi instead of Senegal as previously decided by Taodue, the producers of the film distributed by Medusa.
So began the adventure that led Zalone from Malindi to modify the script in the running, first of all thanks to the discovery of the co-star, the Kenyan child of Mambrui Nassor Birya, and some places that proved to be fundamental to build the story of "Tolo Tolo". Starting with the title, which is Nassor's way of saying "Solo, solo!" as he swims across the Sabaki River. As we have told many times it is a virtual Kenya, but those who visit it will recognize unmistakable places in Malindi such as the White Elephant by Armando Tanzini, the village of Mambrui and certain views of the town, as well as Watamu and the hinterland. And then there are the many local and Italian extras used. Dozens of residents and holidaymakers will recognize themselves and be the additional promotional vehicles for Malindi. From today on, we are waiting for your stories, testimonials and much more. Those who already appreciate the comedy of Zalone and is in Italy will certainly run to the cinema, those who love Kenya and Malindi will have a reason to see "Tolo Tolo" on the big screen, and we are waiting for reviews of this too.
