PUBLIC HOLIDAY
12-12-2022 by redazione
Today is a special day in Kenya, celebrated with a national holiday.
It is 'Jamhuri Day'.
It is Republic Day, the date on which Kenya's independence officially took effect on 12 December 1963, with Jomo Kenyatta as its first president.
Jamhuri is the Swahili word for 'Republic' and since the following year, 12 December has been considered a national holiday.
The African country would later gain full independence from the United Kingdom six months later, on 1 June 1964, with its first Constitution.
Jamhuri Day is regarded as Kenya's most important public holiday, with festivities being celebrated across the country to celebrate national unity despite the peculiarities of different tribes and the country's cultural heritage.
Congratulations on your 59th birthday, Republic of Kenya!
