Tuskys Malindi closed indefinitely

After 13 month another supermarket failed

05-10-2020 by redazione

It lasted just over thirteen months the malindina adventure of the supermarket chain Tuskys inside the Oasis Mall of Lamu Road.
It is the third Kenyan giant of large retailers that cannot economically support the weight of a commercial activity in the coastal town, after Nakumatt and Ocean Grocers.
Tuskys opened its doors in the Malindi shopping center on August 23, 2019, after months of negotiations also linked to previous commercial agreements with the late Nakumatt chain and other small retailers.
After the space left free by the meteor Ocean Grocers, which aimed to fill the void left by the elephant of Nakuru who denounced a liability that had forced him to gradually close all branches, we at malindikenya.net had also welcomed the arrival of Tuskys, as it was well rooted in the coast, with a well established supermarket in Kilifi, one in Mtwapa, and two in Mombasa. It was therefore imagined that the management knew well the specificities of the coastal region and the difficulties encountered by previous management.
In partial exoneration of Tuskys there is to admit that the "Botta di grazia" to already known problems was given by the pandemic emergency that since March has in fact reduced by 75% at least the income and especially in a place that lives of tourism as Malindi was local.
The sign posted in front of the closed premises reads verbatim: "As a consequence of the difficulties in paying the rent of the premises, Tuskys Malindi has been closed indefinitely. Subsequent communications will be given shortly".
