Come to 'Cultural Clean up' in Malindi

Saturday 12th in national momuments and museum

11-08-2023 by Leni Frau

In Malindi, the now customary monthly cleanup of the town, carried out steadily for four years now, at the initiative of the PWAM association with the cooperation of the county and other government institutions, brings many residents to the streets and beaches.
These civic-minded and passionate people, not only gather to collect "taka taka" or garbage to be recycled, but also to set an example of an action that if carried out in their own small way by every frequenter of the locality, not only by Kenyan citizens or residents, without waiting for institutions that (as we Italians know well) are not always effective and punctual, can really transform the image of the destination and positively affect the economy, as well as the health of the environment and people.

This month, the praiseworthy initiative is also joined by a cultural stimulus: in fact, PWAM and responsible citizens are joined by the Malindi National Museum, which invites everyone to a "cultural clean up," or a cleanup carried out in the four national monuments of the ancient coastal town that make up the "Heritage" circuit, namely the Vasco Da Gama Pillar, the Portuguese Cemetery, the House of Columns and the Malindi Museum. For the occasion, those who participate in the exercise of cleaning these places will get free admission to the museums and information about the historical and cultural sites "as part of the collective learning and sharing of Malindi's history, past and living heritage."

The meeting is set for Saturday, August 12, at 8 a.m. at Vasco Da Gama Pillar; the arrival point will be at the Malindi Heritage Complex Museum, around 10:30 a.m. For information, you can contact Charity (she also speaks Italian) at tel 0715750631 or Effue at tel 0708642568
