Malindi monthly cleanup dedicated to women

Awareness rising in Maweni area from 8am

12-03-2021 by Leni Frau

As every month, the responsible citizens of Malindi, led by the Malindi Green And Blue Movement founded by PWAM and assisted by the local police force and representatives of the National Government and the Kilifi County Department of the Environment, will gather to clean an area of the town among those where it is particularly important to raise awareness and educate people about separate waste collection and the correct placement of rubbish for the health and hygiene of the citizens themselves. This month's event is dedicated to women and the status of women, and to the many "pink" associations that are working to improve the situation, especially in the working-class neighbourhoods of Malindi.
Tomorrow, Saturday 13 March, in Maweni, responsible citizens will start at 8am, wearing gloves and masks, inviting local residents to do the same by participating in the clean-up day.
As has been the case since the monthly exercise resumed after the end of the total restrictions, young people from the government's Kazi Mtaani programme, the unemployed who have been offered temporary paid work by the state to help with routine maintenance, will also participate.
And this month too, in the front line of operations, in addition to PWAM who conceived this programme two years ago, now imitated by many municipalities and counties, there will be representatives of the Government, the Police Force as well as the Environment Manager of Malindi Sub-County, Lennox Mwangolo and his staff.
The work of Malindi Green And Blue continues and continues to be supported not only by public bodies such as the KWS, but also by associations such as the Red Cross, Rotaract, Kenya Association of Women in Tourism, Myrerc and others, and private individuals who from time to time join in.
To assist PWAM in organising the monthly Cleanups aimed at bringing Malindi to rubbish separation and recycling, you can send a contribution to the MPESA Paybill number (Till Number) 5502195.
