Malindi stakeholders witness County Security change of guard

Police boss handing over of the community cleanup activities to his collegue

14-11-2019 by Freddie del Curatolo

It had never happened before that the highest authority of the County Police wanted to greet the citizens and representatives of the associations of Malindi before his transfer, nor that his replacement presented himself to the community.
The excellent relationship built up with the outgoing Kilifi County Police Commander  Mr Patrick Okeri and outgoing Sub-County Police Commander Mr. Phillip Wambugu and their active involvement in the monthly cleaning of Malindi town, resulted in a public meeting organized by the Progress Welfare Association of Malindi (PWAM) and the Malindi Green And Blue movement at Kilili Baharini Resort.
In addition to Mr Okeri and the new Police Commander James Mugera, there were the highest officials of the Municipality of Malindi, Board Chairman Aliasgar Kassamjee and Town Manager Silas Ngundo, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Majid Swaleh County and local representatives of associations of entrepreneurs, hoteliers and the tourism and culture sectors like Monalisa Ng'anga, Kenya Association Women in Tourism Kilifi Chapter Chair, and Maureen Awuor, KAHC chairperson for Kilifi County..
In taking stock of the situation in Malindi and the progress made during the last eight months that coincided with the mandate of Okeri and the birth of the Malindi Green And Blue movement, not only in the field of cleaning and infrastructure, but also of security, the President of PWAM Kate Mwikali applauded. "This is the first ceremony where an outgoing County police commander hands over a community town cleaning activity to an incoming Commander - Mwikali said –this is not only extraordinary but an unprecedented event for the County and the Nation".
Mr Mugera assured the stakeholders that he would continue working with the community and that they had his total support.
At the meeting, not only celebratory and in-depth, there was also time to ask some questions to those present, especially to the Board Chairman of Malindi, Aliasgar Kassamjee.
A public meeting with the heads of the Municipality to explain the transition of powers and responsibilities from Kilifi County to the newborn Municipality of Malindi, is scheduled for next Tuesday, November 26.
