Italy will help 15,000 Kenyan farmers and their families, thanks to a fund from our cooperation, implemented by the AVSI and e4Impact foundations in Embu County, central Kenya.
In fact, a project set up to enable at least 30 dairy farming cooperatives in the county to recover from the negative impact of Covid-19 was inaugurated in recent days, through access to technology tools and skills for digital records management, opportunities to develop sustainable business models, and grants to improve storage and processing capacity.
Farmers will also receive "subsidized recovery kits" for cheese production and storage, agribusiness training, and resources for farm business development. They will also be provided with information on agricultural extension through radio broadcasts and have the opportunity to participate in benchmarking tours to improve their skills.
According to AVSI, the expected results of the new agribusiness economic recovery project include a 70 percent increase in milk production, a 50 percent reduction in post-harvest milk losses, a minimum 30 percent increase in household income for 70 percent of the participants, and the creation of 500 value chain-related supply chains, generating at least 2.5 million in production, value added, and business activities through complementary subsidies.
"Avsi believes in the multi-sectoral approach that has proven its effectiveness in different contexts. Through projects like this, NGOs, donors, businesses, and authorities combine efforts to promote development, and we are excited to see how it will be implemented in the dairy value chain," said Avsi Foundation's representative in Kenya, Romana Koech.
