Italian illustrator Emanuele Baccinelli, one of the pencils of 'Mickey Mouse', will also be present as a special guest at the 'Mombasa Comic Convention', the first comic book 'comicon' festival that has been organised for today in Kenya's second largest city.
The Mombasa Comic Convention will be held from 10am to 6pm at the Alliance Francaise headquarters in Nyali. The Italian comic artist born in 1988 has been invited by the Italian Cultural Institute of Nairobi and will offer live drawing sessions and a masterclass dedicated to local cartoonists and illustrators.
The event includes games, animations, experiments, exhibitions, films, workshops and discussions, all revolving around the world of comics, manga, cosplay and other evocations of the world of comic illustrations.
There will also be a space dedicated to children, with games with prizes and giveaways.
Baccinelli's career began in 2014, when he won the competition for new artists organised by Disney/Panini and began working as an illustrator for Mickey Mouse and other Disney titles. He produces covers for the Disney Legendary Collection series, the French Disney title Mickey Parade Géant, and for the New Mickey Mouse Almanac. In 2019, he won the Albertarelli prize for emerging cartoonists awarded by the Anafi association. Since 2017, he has been teaching humorous comics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Novara and teaching drawing in the Experience Summer Camp summer courses.
