As part of Saturday evening dedicated to art and local talent, this evening at the Baby Marrow during dinner, the painter Tanzanian Feruzi exhibits his works and presents live African art of "tinga tinga" of which he is one of the leading exponents in Malindi.
Feruzi is known and visible enough in the Kenyan town to have its own shop on the seafront, just before the port (opposite the former I love Pizza). His "tinga tinga" are not only on canvas but Feruzi depicts the classic elongated shapes of people and animals even on bottles of every size and shape.
Triumph of colors but also of a certain African surrealism, polite but populated by herds of strange fish, elephants and other caricatured characters of iridescent and dreamlike worlds. In short, behind the alleged banality of African painting "as a tourist", Feruzi puts something more than we like to call "soul."
