Classic Hotel N.2 (little poem)

In Africa every corner tells a story

22-01-2022 by Freddie del Curatolo

I got a room at the Classic Hotel
I'm no Leonard, but she was a lot better than Janis...
and the bed was already unmade before we even got in.
The door was locked with a Chinese lock.
the insects ran fast on the walls
the sink beat an irregular rhythm of drops
intermittently covered by the bellowing of the fan.
but who cares, it costs less than a breakfast in a western bar
and it is no more annoying than an hour stopped on the ring road
noise of people going up and down an iron staircase
selling drugs, exchanging money and curses
next door there are people selling fresh water and pies in pieces
the hubbub at the barbershop and the quiet songs of women
the uncontrolled laughter and the crazy ring tones
of people who need everything
but for this very reason they don't need us.
