It's official, the Kenyan national airline Kenya Airways' flights to Italy, which should have started last July 3, as per previous announcements and also from tickets sold and now refundable or reservable for another date through the website, have been postponed to December 1.
In a note sent to the Italian airport authorities of Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino, Kenya Airways has indicated as the cause the restrictions still in force in Italy, with respect to countries in band E in which Kenya is also included, for example, tourism is still prohibited, and probably this ban will be extended, and on return anyone with credentials to travel to Kenya, should still observe a period of 10 days of isolation of trust.
On its website, the African company also writes of "uncertain prospects", but in any case indicates a date, December 1st, when it is hoped that the pre-announced direct flights Nairobi-Milan-Rome can finally begin.
Other airlines, such as KLM, which has prepared a twice-weekly flight to Mombasa, have set November 1 as the date for the resumption, but for everyone, including Italian airports, uncertainty reigns supreme.
"It is not so much the bans that are holding back the resumption of long-haul air traffic," writes the Milan airport website, "but the uncertainty of what will happen in a week or a month that is keeping passengers away from long-haul destinations, which at the moment are only concentrated on short-haul, low-cost routes. This is precisely the fear for Malpensa once the summer holiday wave is over: will business traffic restart? Will it be possible to travel to the USA for tourism? Will connections be reopened for the warm seas of the Caribbean, the beaches of the Maldives or enchanting Asia? These are questions that are currently unanswered.
