Kenya is thinking about citizenships for sale

Government wants to reduce the huge debit

19-11-2019 by redazione

Become a Kenyan citizen? From next year it could be very easy, just pay. The Government of Kenya is seriously considering some measures to reduce public debt and especially the debt accrued in recent years with foreign nations and the International Monetary Fund because of the many development and infrastructure projects. The figure is around 50 billion dollars and the "Vision 2030" of the current executive no longer appears so clear.
Following in the footsteps of what is already happening in other countries, such as Central and South America, Kenya is ready to "sell" its citizenships to foreigners, in exchange, of course, for the possibility that they will invest and pay taxes in Kenya and that they will undoubtedly be rich. In the same way we want to facilitate the residences and activate as normal the possibility of obtaining them renewable for up to five years. This is what the national newspaper Daily Nation reports, which indicates the fields of construction and technology as possible areas where the creation of jobs and opportunities will be combined with Kenyan passports.
An ambitious move that would give a clear cut to the past, given that the African nation is considered one of the most complicated and cumbersome to issue residences and work or residence permits.
The government's decision, to be approved by Parliament, follows President Kenyatta's signature on the economic changes implemented last week, with the return of free interest rates by banks, after they had been calmed to below 12.5%. This would allow to return to invest with confidence and for foreigners to have the possibility of a double passport (in fact the law would provide that you can maintain their foreign citizenship) would open the door to faster and more profitable business.
