Saturday 10th july it's Malindi eco funday time!

Hotels special rates, fun at Marine Park and monthly clean up

09-07-2021 by Leni Frau

Malindi promotes "green" tourism and does so in conjunction with its Monthly Clean-up, which in this period of restrictions is carried out in many areas of the town at the same time and has been followed for months by hotels and activities, as well as by responsible citizens under the aegis of the Progress Welfare Association of Malindi (aka Malindi Green And Blue), which for two years has been carrying out this unique programme in Kenya for its continuity, with the support of the Department of Environment of Kilifi County.
In view of the "Malindi Monthly Clean-up" tomorrow, Saturday 10 July starts the Malindi Eco Funday initiative, in which in addition to cleaning, planting and play activities, the hotels of Malindi are promoting special rates for those who decide to enjoy a period of "conscious" relaxation, perhaps by participating in the activities that Malindi continually proposes to return to the glories of the years between the two millennia, when it was considered and awarded as the greenest and most flowery town in all of Kenya.
During the monthly clean-up day, facilities such as Tropical, Dream Of Africa, Malindi Dream Garden, Ocean Beach Resort, Woburn Residence, Mwembe Resort, White Elephant as well as participating with their staff and cleaning the area around the hotels and the beach, offer significant discounts to those who choose Malindi and keep alive the hope of eco-sustainability. At the same time, the Kenya Wildlife Service is promoting an eco-weekend, with a day of responsible beach fun, snorkelling and other activities at a special price.
There are many battles that PWAM and civil society in Malindi have been waging for the past two years to improve living conditions and tourism. From the issue of the Mayungu landfill, which afflicts a large part of the residents of Casuarina and their tourist activities, to the projects financed by the World Bank, always at risk from corruption.
But there are also many goals achieved through this constant commitment: the organisation of groups of beach workers who periodically keep Silversand clean, the reforestation of mangroves at the mouth of the Sabaki and other daily activities that are slowly changing the conscience of many people. Because something can and must be done.
For tomorrow, anyone can participate in the Clean-Up by choosing an area and collecting rubbish. Report the location, to facilitate collection by the county service and possibly send photos to whatsapp number +25470864256 of PWAM marketing manager, Effue Opyo.
