Today in Malindi seabed and beach cleaning

Meeting point at Osteria Beach at 3 pm

04-01-2020 by redazione

The appointment is scheduled for this afternoon at 3pm on Silversand beach, in front of the Osteria Beach. Volunteers of the Malindi Green And Blue movement will be on the beach together with Kenya Wildlife Service, the Municipality of Malindi and hopefully many tourists and residents, will be engaged in a demonstration cleaning of the strip of sea in front. At that time there is low tide and the clean-up will cover the accessible seabed on foot to the coral reef, but also the beach itself.
This is one of the initiatives carried out by Malindi Green And Blue, who shortly before Christmas had cleared the beach of Silversand from tons of plant debris brought by the storm and which unfortunately today have partly returned. It's a difficult fight, especially because of climate change, to which is added the neglect of people who leave waste and especially plastic on the land and in the sea itself.
"It will still be a party, as well as an exemplary action - explains Kate Mwikali, chairperson of Malindi Green And Blue - the beach of Malindi is public, it belongs to everyone and everyone should take care of it every day. So we expect citizens and tourists too, especially those who come here on holiday every year".
The cleaning of the "seabed" of the Malindi Marine Park does not exclude the other initiatives of the month, the cleaning of a district of the town will continue as always on the second Saturday of the month, January 11, while on the 18th there will be the first Clean Up of Mambrui.
