A KENYTALIAN WEDNESDAY

That need for serenity that Kenya gives

Our readers e.mail talking about Africa nostalgia

16-10-2022 by Leni Frau

The emails from our readers with "Africa Sickness," which we group and publish every Wednesday in the column dedicated to them, continue.
This week Nora wrote to us, who has been missing from Kenya for four years now, complicit in the pandemic, and is looking forward to being able to return, but in the meantime, in addition to losing a beloved loved one, she has to deal, like so many, with the economic crisis and the increase in so many prices, including those for transportation.
"I dream of the safari I used to go on every year in the Tsavo, the smells and that feeling of home," Nora writes, "but I know I can't afford it now. Fortunately, dreaming is free."
For Marcello, on the other hand, the biggest miss is the sea in Watamu.
"This year I will return to my beloved Kenya," he writes, "and I hope to find everything as I left it, my beaches to take long walks again and enjoy the colors of the sea and sky.
Finally, for Mattia, Kenya is good for the spirit, and these days it is even more important to be able to dive in.
"I've only been away for a few months and I already feel the need, I can't wait to come back. Is it Africa sickness in me? I just don't know, you try to say it but this need for serenity to take me away from all the problems that have created us becomes stronger and stronger as the vacations approach. It is now the only place where I know I can be comfortable."
