There is a magic corner just outside the centre of Malindi, in the Kibokoni area on Lamu Road, called Amanileo Resort, which offers not only traditional Sematic and Kushite cuisine, but also a variety of dishes with the unmistakable fragrance of spices from the highlands nearby Asmara that accompany tasty stews of meat, chicken, beef and vegetables.
The basic dish is the injera, prepared with Teff flour, a gluten-free cereal imported directly from its homeland. You can complete this gastronomic journey with the typical coffee served as per tradition in the jebena, a special earthenware pot and poured into the colourful cups without handles.
The restaurant is a simple but well-kept environment with a covered dining room and a veranda area that can accommodate up to 50 diners in accordance with Covid-19 protocols.
Bed and breakfast rooms, a meeting room and an event room are also available.
Amanileo Resort is open every day for lunches and dinners (reservations are appreciated). There is also a wood-burning oven for pizzas and grills, as well as a small private area for groups of friends who want to enjoy privacy and prefer total social distancing.
