The bad weather in Kenya, according to meteorologists, may give a respite and reduce to normal seasonal rainfall. Following these indications, President William Ruto announced the reopening of public schools nationwide for next Monday, 13 May.
While on Friday 10, a day of national mourning (and public holiday, which it would be unfair to call a 'holiday' because there is really nothing to celebrate) has been declared to commemorate the victims of last weeks' floods, which have far exceeded the 238 reported by the government and the 250 reported by the national news agency, considering also that 75 people have been missing for days now and another 74 are hospitalised in serious condition.
In any case, many schools will reopen in an emergency situation, due to the damage caused. In the north of the country, in the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria region, some were completely submerged by water and mud.
