National election day in Kenya ended late at night, with some polling stations still open after midnight waiting for voters, and others where for various reasons, including bad weather, ballot papers and polls arrived very late.
The Director of the Electoral Commission IEBC Wafula Chebukati, at the press conference, stated that at 8 a. m. last night he had voted 48% of those entitled to vote, i. e. about one Kenyan out of two.
The number of seats that have declared to be open has been found to be slightly more than 87% across the whole territory.
At 9 a. m. in the evening, the IEBC in Nairobi had already received a quarter of the forms from the constituencies.
Most of the non-operational seats are located in the four counties where groups of residents have not allowed the electoral process to run smoothly: Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Syaya.
There have been numerous clashes with the police, three people have been killed, twenty or so according to local press reports.
Other seats scattered around the country have reported problems with connection, bad weather or other impediments.
In the event that no sign has been reported this morning from the other seats, the IEBC has announced that it will also vote in those seats and their constituencies on Saturday throughout the day.
In the meantime, data transmission continues, since the entire process of scrutiny up to the final result cannot take more than a week.
The provisional numbers indicate, of course, Kenyatta winner with 99.2% of the preferences.
