The date of the new elections in Kenya could be postponed.
This is what the IEBC Electoral Commission would have reported yesterday evening to the national daily Daily Nation, after receiving a dossier on the telematic organisation of the forthcoming votes from Ot-Morpho, the French company responsible, as in the previous electoral round, for managing the computer transmission of election ballot papers and forms for the various sections.
According to the source questioned by Nation, elections could be postponed to 24 or 30 October.
In addition to the telematic management, there are to be reprinted the ballot papers, buy 40,000 ballot boxes and contract more than 300 thousand people who will have to act in various sectors.
The risk of a re-run of uneven elections is very high, given that the previous ones, which ended with invalidation on 8 August this year, revealed various types of errors and shortcomings in at least one fifth of the sections scrutinised.
This would be the main reason why the Supreme Court Judge David Maraga would have annulled the vote.
Between Thursday and Friday, all the reasons for the previous cancellation should also be known, and the IEBC committee will definitely work to organise better elections. But less than a month after the supposed date, this seems unlikely.
