Kenya: no elections in the Odinga strongholds

Postponed to other date. Riots only in Nairobi slums

28-10-2017 by redazione

The elections in the Opposition strongholds (the region of Nyanza, namely Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Syaya and other smaller districts) were postponed to a date to be set aside.
Given the impossibility of accessing the seats on Thursday, the IEBC Electoral Commission had postponed them until today, but the violent verbal statements by Odinga and her supporters advised the Director of the IEBC Wafula Chebukati to postpone them.
On the other hand, Nyanza's votes represent only 9% of the total, and with Kenyatta currently attested to 99% of the preferences, they would not shift any balance, if not allowing the opposition itself to ask for the cancellation of the entire electoral process, which would then be what they want.
Today, however, voting will take place in Turkana and the surrounding area, where for various reasons the ballot papers have not been able to arrive in time.
From tomorrow or at the latest on Monday, results and modalities in hand, you will see if the elections are to be considered effective or will be cancelled.
There will certainly be a queue of appeals this time again, but the hope is that the streets of the country will remain as quiet as possible.
Yesterday, the hot spots of NASA also calmed down, but some accidents broke out in the slums of Nairobi, where gangs of young people fought each other and later with the police forces who came to calm the confusion.
On the other hand, on election day, more than ten people were affected by clashes and accidents.
All of them north of the country, in the slums and on Lake Victoria.
