The trial for the kidnapping of the Italian volunteer Silvia Romano should have resumed this morning at the Malindi Court with a hearing concerning the third person arrested by the gang accused of the criminal act, the Somali Ibrahim Adan Omar.
For the first time, there were several Italians in the number one courtroom of the coastal town. In addition to us at malindikenya.net and the correspondent of Rai Veronica Fernandes, there were also freelance journalists of the Espresso and Fatto Quotidiano, as well as simple residents and holidaymakers who wanted to express their closeness to the girl and the mystery of her death.
According to what has been leaked out in the courtroom, parliamentarians from Italy were also expected in Malindi, but the recent government crisis has kept them in Rome.
Apart from this, the trial would probably have marked novelty even if this day of interrogations and testimonies had been held regularly. The fact is that the judge moved everything to the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, August 21, effectively trying to merge the start of the trial with the resumption of the one against the other two suspects, Abdullah Gababa Wario and Moses Luwali Chembe, already heard last July 30 in Malindi. According to the Court, 17 witnesses will have to be heard.
