The trial of the alleged accomplices of the kidnappers who one year ago took the Italian volunteer Silvia Romano from her home in the village of Chakama, inland of Malindi, where she worked in solidarity activities on behalf of the Italian non-profit organization Africa Milele, has been postponed until next year.
A story that in these twelve months has been written a lot, perhaps even too much.
While indiscretions have been filtered out from Italy that would indicate the Somali track for the search of the Milanese girl more and more clearly, the trial of the three who would have taken part at least in the first phases of the kidnapping seems to mark the step and become less and less important for the purposes of the search and the solution of its mystery.
Beyond the surrounding chatter and sadness of an anniversary that will not be celebrated in Kenya, today the fact is that the trial that had already been postponed for a week because one of the three accused of being part of the gang of kidnappers, Ibrahim Adan Omar, free on bail, had not appeared at the hearing last November 14 in Chakama, was updated to January 28, 2020 by the Court of Malindi.
Now, given the absconding and the arrest warrant issued by the authorities against him, Judge Julie Oseko has decided to grant two months of time to trace Omar.
At the same time, from indiscretions filtered through the Malindi Court, the possibility of returning to the division of the trial would be under consideration, so that the two defendants Moses Luwali Chembe and Abdalla Gababa Wario would be judged separately, while the fugitive would act with a different procedure.
