Ahead of the two authors' arrival in Italy for Rivista Africa's Kenya Festival on 30 September in Milan (Centro Internazionale di Quartiere in via Fabio Massimo, Corvetto area, starting at 6pm), the book 'Nairobi' by Freddie del Curatolo and Leni Frau, published by the Italian publishing house Ogzero for the series 'Le città visibili' directed by Angelo Ferrari, is released today in all bookshops and online stores (including Amazon).
The booklet, which in the online version is enriched with interactive maps and other surprises, will also be published in parallel in Kenya and presented from November onwards on several occasions, both in the capital and in Malindi, Watamu and Diani.
Here is what the publishing house writes about the book, which the authors will present (and sign) both on Friday 30 September in Milan and Tuesday 4 October at Villa Lascaris in Turin:

"Africa is a mosaic of countries, of languages, of cultures, of histories. Each country in Africa is a place in itself, and it makes little sense to consider a continent with more than a billion inhabitants as a single reality. Nairobi is a paradigm of a uniqueness worth knowing, of a history of colonisation and decolonisation, of contrasts and human, social and cultural vibrancy.

Freddie's texts and Leni's magnificent black-and-white photographs - which go beyond the exotic fascination that may have attracted them at the beginning of their African adventure - invite us to go beyond the city safari stereotypes and act as a Virgilian guide in the city of contrasts: post-colonial neighbourhoods and slums, skyscrapers and savannah coexisting in traffic, heterogeneous communities and kaleidoscopes of tastes and colours..."
Writes Freddie: 'It is the people who make the difference. If you think that Nairobi was born 120 years ago and Rome almost 2800, don't compare the Pantheon with the National Archive or the gardens of Villa Borghese with Uhuru Park. Rather remember that Rome has the ancient Colosseum, but Nairobi has the roaring lions'.
