Kenya holiday: rules to respect

Info on laws and recommended behaviour

11-07-2022 by redazione

Almost all Westerners who visit Kenya do so on holiday.
It may be an extended holiday, a stay for the purpose of learning about future employment or business or whatever, but those who are not resident in the African country hardly know all the laws and rules of this country, and sometimes are not even very familiar with the English language, let alone Swahili.
That is why one must be even more cautious than when travelling in one's home country.
The very nature of the holiday sometimes leads one to feel free, light and uncaring of the new reality in which one moves.
One tends to take many things for granted and in the case of Africa, the idea one has always had of a less evolved place, with milder laws and less strict enforcement, is outdated.
Once upon a time, perhaps it was like this and even Italian travellers did what they wanted or 'got away with it' with minimal damage or outlay.
Today, Kenya is a growing reality that is adapting (with obvious difficulties) to the international systems and the various modes of civil coexistence based on rules and laws that must be respected.
If in the past or even today, some infractions are not punished, it does not mean that they are not punishable, but often those who should enforce them, for various reasons, 'pass over' them.
In that case, you are or have been lucky, not in the right.
We therefore reiterate with an informative video some tips that may seem trivial but which, judging by those who still 'fall for it', are worth noting and following so as not to have any problems during your stay in Kenya.

GOOD (AND USEFUL) VIEWING! (IN ITALIAN)
(NOTE: THE ADVICE REGARDING THE COPY OF THE PASSPORT IS ONLY FOR TOURISTS WHO WANT TO LEAVE IT IN HOTEL SAFES FOR SAFETY. FOR NON-PACKAGE TRAVELLERS IT IS BETTER TO DO THE OPPOSITE, I.E. MAKE A PHOTOCOPY OF THE PASSPORT AND KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE IN THE KENYAN ACCOMMODATION)
