Back this year, after the forced cancellation of the 2020 edition, is the Magical Kenya Open of Golf which takes place from today until Sunday 21 March at the Karen Country Club.
The winner of the 2019 edition, the last one played, is the young Italian Guido Migliozzi, who surprisingly won the tournament but who today is no longer an unknown, having also won in Belgium and recently come close to doing so in Qatar.
Migliozzi will lead a "colony" of six golfers who, like him, aspire to the million-euro prize money, including the most famous of our standard-bearers, Edoardo Molinari, who won the competition in 2007, when it was still only part of the Challenge Tour. Lorenzo Gagli (who won the Open in 2018), Nino Bertasio, Francesco Laporta and Lorenzo Scalise, who has recovered from the Covid that forced him to miss the Qatar Masters, will also be there.
Among the title favourites are Englishman Aaron Ray, Spaniards Adrian Otaegui and Jorge Campillo, as well as South Africans George Coetzee and Zander Lombard.
The up-and-coming Kenyan golfers are hoping to make the cut, apart from national champion Greg Snow, there is also the interesting Simon Ngige who made a very good impression in 2019, as well as Dismas Indiza, David Wakhu and Erick Obura.
Many of them will also take part in a second tournament, added at the tail end of the Open also in Nairobi, the Kenya Savannah Classic which will also take place at the Karen Country Club from Tuesday 23 March to Friday 26. Here too, around €1 million is up for grabs.
The Italians have taken a liking to it and this year no less than five of them have arrived to...
