Nairobi is back to being full of Covid-19 positives and citizens are thinking of escaping to the "Covid-19 Free" coast for Easter, fearing however restrictions on travel outside the Capital close to the festive season.
Bookings for planes and the SGR train have been flooding in since April 1, but there has not yet been a real assault on hotels, judging from requests on booking platforms, although many Kenyans, as at Christmas, have preferred to rent flats or villas, especially in Malindi, Watamu and Diani, while in the seaside resorts near Mombasa, hotels are still the most popular.
The national airline for domestic flights Jambojet has decided to increase daily flights to the country's second city, as well as to Malindi, Kisumu and Eldoret, considering the many requests for the Easter period. Many dates are in fact already full. Satisfaction was also expressed by the new Skywards airline, which has been flying to Malindi and Lamu for the past month.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours the percentage of Covid-19 cases per swab has risen again from 16.1% the day before to 17.2% yesterday, Tuesday 16 March.
Infections in the country exceeded one thousand, with 1064 positive cases out of 6151 tests carried out.
The total number of confirmed positive cases now stands at 115,031. The total number of tests conducted so far is 1,379,990. Of the cases, 964 are Kenyans while 100 are foreigners.
Unfortunately, seven patients died from the disease during the same period, pushing the cumulative mortality to 1,925. Meanwhile, 185 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries now stands at 88,781. There are 709 patients currently admitted in various health facilities across the country, while 2,223 patients are in isolation and home care.
104 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of which 25 are on ventilatory support and 72 on supplementary oxygen. 1 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
9 patients are under observation. Another 70 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, all in general wards.
In terms of distribution of cases in the Counties, Nairobi still leads with 681, followed by Kiambu 93, Nakuru 69, Uasin Gishu 40, Kisumu 25, Kajiado 23, Busia 20, Machakos 17, Kericho 17, Mombasa 15, Nyeri 10, Kirinyaga 8, Isiolo 5, Mandera 5 , Laikipia 4 , Turkana 4 , Nandi 4 , Meru 4 , Elgeyo Marakwet 3 , Migori 3 , Siaya 3 , Embu 1 , Kakamega 1 , Kwale 1 , Marsabit 1 , Murang'a 1 , Narok 1 , Nyamira 1 , Nyandarua 1 , Tharaka Nithi 1 , Baringo 1 and Bomet 1 .
