Six months of inconvenience for motorists who frequent Nyali Beach, the tourist resort on the outskirts of Mombasa. The town's main artery, Links Road, will be partially closed from 1 August until 30 January 2026 to allow for major construction work to resolve the flooding and drainage problems that have long plagued that part of the road.
The announcement was made by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), which asked for the understanding of the public and motorists in transit, urging them to pay attention when approaching the affected section and to follow all road signs and directions.
Police officers and traffic wardens will be deployed to guide motorists and ensure the smooth flow of traffic, inviting them to use alternative routes as indicated in the traffic management plan provided.
The project is part of KURA's plans to transform urban mobility through sustainable and efficient road networks. The agency in Kenya oversees a road network spanning approximately 4,625 km, including paved and unpaved roads within urban areas.
Nyali, which now has over 220,000 inhabitants and more than 50 hotels and hospitality facilities, several restaurants (including the Italian Roberto's) and three large shopping centres, is visited by thousands of tourists every year, particularly Germans and Northern Europeans, but also a fair number of Italians. Attractions include Mamba Village, an amusement park with crocodiles and snakes, the Nyali Golf Club and Mombasa Inlet, with excursions on traditional dhows.
