Ondara, the kenyan folksinger conquers USA

The artist of "Tales of America" was the surprise of Grammys

27-11-2019 by Freddie del Curatolo

There is a new star in the firmament of American folk-pop music and it comes from Kenya.
His name is J.S. Ondara, he was born in Nairobi twenty-seven years ago and has been living in the United States since 2013.
After moving to America for a period of study, six years ago he obtained citizenship thanks to the famous Green Card lottery, which rewards those who qualify to apply and now live in Minnesota. Ondara has been one of the protagonists of the recent Grammy Awards, the Oscars of world music that every year award the greatest artists not only from the United States.
Ondara has been a finalist and candidate for several Grammys, and has excelled in the ranking of "African artist" thanks to his debut album "Tales of America", which actually has very little African but that seems to be the result of the lesson of the folk of Nashville and songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Van Morrison.
It's no coincidence that, apart from the radio and autobiographical single entitled "America dream", some songs (such as the beautiful "Master O'Connor", but also "Torch Song") have moved the attention of characters like Robbie Robertson, founder of The Band who wanted him on his last album.
Ondara's way of singing amazed American critics for her maturity and style, despite her young age. A true talent that Kenya awaits on tour and for which a bright career is expected.
