A special day in Malindi to learn about the reality of refugees in Kenya and compare it with those who are more fortunate travelers, or the reality of migrants and the efforts of volunteers.
This is "Many Ways to Travel," the event organized by JRS (Jesuit Refugee Service) in the spaces of Muyeye Catholic Church for Saturday, Nov. 19.
The appointment is at 5 p.m., with the opening of a photo exhibition on refugees in Kenya, testimonies from those working in refugee camps and other travelers, the screening of an illustrative video, and finally the "Mikono" Christmas market, with interesting handicraft creations produced by refugees in the Kenyan Kakuma camp. Gift ideas that make Christmas twice as meaningful, since they fund the activities of those who are forced to live in a reality far from their homeland and that should be a passage but often turns into an endless purgatory. The event JRS wanted in Malindi, to confront even those who travel for tourism and to exchange some humanity in these times of selfishness and excessive superficiality. Muyeye Catholic Church is located in Malindi's working-class neighborhood of the same name.
From Casuarina it can be reached by the paved road that starts opposite the hospital and then turning left into the other paved road before the new market. Conversely from the road to the airport, at the gas station, take the paved road, turning right after the new market at the Pentagon building.
