Malindi Silversand beach: tomorrow big cleaning

Stakeholders, private and Kilifi County: we need more support

20-12-2019 by Freddie del Curatolo

Another great operation of the Malindi Green And Blue movement for its town that in these days is preparing to become one of the most visited tourist destinations by international and local holidaymakers.
From an idea of the Progress Welfare Association of Malindi to which the Board Chairman of Malindi Municipality Aliasgar Kassamjee, the Ministry of Environment of Kilifi County and the KWS have immediately adhered, the cleaning operation of the beach of Silversand, which in these days has been literally invaded by the remains of plants and trees brought from the bed of the river Sabaki with the current and the strong night storms.
Unfortunately, all the rubbish produced and then recklessly left in the environment by man has attached itself to this natural debris like a net. Plastic in all its forms (an incredible amount of yoghurt jars, for example) as well as polystyrene, flipflops, rubber and canvas shoes, even diapers. For some time now, every morning, Tropical, Via Lattea, White Beach, Rosada, Osteria Beach, White Elephant and some private villas have been employing part of their staff to collect what is piled up and pay trucks to take it all away.
But that's not enough, so entrepreneurs like Bilal Chaudry, John Tofani, Kassamjee have provided their mechanical means for a massive collection and many will be volunteers from hotels and private homes to contribute to this emergency on the beach.
Seeing this unit and the deployment of vehicles and forces, the local government has also offered its help, providing three trucks to load and unload the garbage collected and transport it to the district landfill.
There are two ways to participate, which are also compatible with each other: be at 7am on Saturday morning in Chui Road (road between Osteria Beach and White Elephant) and/or send a contribution to pay for gasoline, buy rakes and support Malindi Green And Blue at Mpesa 0727483855 of Vice Chairman Philip Ayub Chai.
