The Kenya Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra returns to the coast for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event, entitled “Classics at the Coast”, will take place on Sunday 27 July 2025 at the Cleopatra Theatre in Malindi and promises an afternoon of world-class orchestral and choral music.
The concert will feature a full 50-piece orchestra and a choir composed of students, professionals and passionate musicians from across Kenya, who will perform under the baton of an experienced conductor.
The rich and varied programme includes works by Beethoven, Sibelius, Elgar, Moncayo and Kenyan composers such as Shaka Marko and Philip Maina, along with beloved Kenyan songs such as ‘Safari ya Bamba’ and ‘Nimerudi Shambani’.
This is a great opportunity to experience the joy of live orchestral music in Malindi, a chance to bring the community together through music and to inspire young aspiring local artists.
The event also aims to give back to the community by offering sponsored tickets to disadvantaged students and young musicians.
Tickets cost Kes. 1000 and can be purchased in advance at www.mtickets.com.
Guests are advised to arrive early, as all participants must be seated by 3 p.m.
No admission will be allowed during performances, only between pieces.
The concert is organised by Maabara Atelier, Pauline Balletto and Deborah Goodhart, acting on behalf of the Kenya Conservatory of Music in Malindi, who have secured sponsorship for the concert.
Local businesses and organisations in Malindi and Watamu that have supported the concert are: Turtle Bay, Ocean Beach Resort, Pam Golding, Hob House Coast, Urmi Furnitures and Woodworks Ltd, Urmi Distributors Limited and Gatz Auto Care, Mama Jo's Restaurant and Pistachio Organics.
Bringing this orchestra to Malindi not only enriches the cultural life of the town, but also showcases Malindi as an artistic destination on the Kenyan coast.
