There is an event not to be missed on Thursday 23 October in Nairobi for all lovers of well-played, elegant and energetic music. An event, among other things, with a good sprinkling of Italy.

This is the Kadanz Band, a Kenyan ensemble featuring two Italians, Pietro Tilli and Filippo Amato, whom we interview in this week's Rotopodcast (link in the article above).

Pietro plays keyboards and Filippo plays drums. Joining them on stage at the Geco Café in Lavington are singers Millicent Musakale and Laura Amayo, saxophonist David “Musito” Sanna (who is not Sardinian), Michael “Muya” Kimuri on trumpet, Ian “Gitonga” Mananga on guitar, Mathews “Danger” Shitakha on bass, and Tony Ndengu on percussion.

The Kadanz band's repertoire draws on soul, funk, rhythm and blues and Afrobeat, with covers of Stevie Wonder, Tower of Power and Fela Kuti, among others.

A concert by this Afro-Italian band promises excitement and energy, and it will be difficult to stay seated at your table, where you can also enjoy dinner. The concert starts at 7.30 pm, and reservations are recommended on Tel. 0792 489449.
