Kadanz's Italian-Kenyan funk returns to Nairobi

Classy music with Pietro Tilli and Filippo Amato's band

21-06-2026 by Freddie del Curatolo

It’s not often that you see professionals on the same stage who, during the week, work in international diplomacy, humanitarian security, and cooperation, and on the weekend transform into musicians capable of getting a crowd moving with their groove, energy, and talent.
On Sunday, June 28, at Bamba in Lavington, Nairobi, the Kadanz Band returns—one of the most interesting groups on the Kenyan soul, funk, and Afrobeat scene. Among the performers will be two Italians well known in the capital’s international circles: drummer Filippo Amato, trade representative for Italy at the European Union Delegation in Nairobi, and keyboardist, arranger, and musical director Pietro Tilli, who serves as the Red Cross’s security officer for the entire Horn of Africa region.
For those living in Kenya who love live music performed with elegance, passion, and skill, this could be one of the last chances to hear Filippo Amato on Kenyan stages before new professional commitments take him away from Nairobi.
Joining the two Italians on stage will be singers Millicent Musakale and Laura Amayo, saxophonist David “Musito” Sanna, Michael “Muya” Kimuri on trumpet, Ian “Gitonga” Mananga on guitar, the sensational Mathews “Danger” Shitakha on bass, and Tony Ndengu on percussion.
The Kadanz Band’s repertoire spans soul, rhythm and blues, funk, and Afrobeat, with tributes to legends such as Stevie Wonder, Tower of Power, and Fela Kuti. This concert promises rhythm, sophistication, and an engaging experience—with a real risk that you won’t be able to stay seated at your table even for the duration of dinner.
The event is on June 28 at 6:30 p.m. To reserve a table, call 0112 889674.
