An appointment more unique than rare, this evening on the stage of one of the temples of jazz in Nairobi.
The encounter between an Italian musician and a Kenyan band, especially in the field of ‘blue notes’, is not something sporadic of late. But a jazz vibraphonist with his instrument, arriving directly from Italy, meeting one of the most important musicians on the Kenyan scene, that's something to catch and, for those who are in the capital and love music, to rush to admire.
Chittò has already given an example of his prowess, also compositional, in the evening organised by the Italian Institute of Culture at the Kenya National Theatre last Thursday as part of the Settimana della lingua italiana nel mondo. This evening he will have more freedom and at the same time will act together with a well-rehearsed quintet, with trumpeter Mackinlay Mutsembi conducting and many possible surprises, as is the custom at Gecko, the Lavington venue where ‘live’ performances are at home practically every night.
With Olmo and his vibraphone, room for improvisation and talent. The appointment is at 7pm, at the Geco, in addition to drinking excellent beers, you can also have dinner.
