The "World Week of Italian Cuisine", an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, under the brand name "Vivere all'Italiana", is starting today in Kenya. From today to Saturday, November 27th, the Italian Embassy in Kenya and the Italian Cultural Institute in Nairobi have planned a series of meetings, show cooking, masterclasses and conferences in Nairobi, Embu and Malindi, both in presence (limited and by invitation, in compliance with the restrictions still in force on public events) and through video and livestreaming.
It starts today, Monday, November 22 with the official launch of the video "Home movie Italian food" produced by the Italian Cultural Institute, on the theme of traditional family meals.
On Tuesday 23rd a masterclass on Mediterranean and sustainable cuisine will be held at the Task Catering Training Institute in Nairobi, starting at 2pm.
The appointment of Wednesday 24th will take place at the Ambassador's residence, with the presentation of six Italian-Kenyan success stories "From the farm to the fork", and will have as its highlight a live cooking show of Italian specialties and sustainable cuisine with chef Giacomo Gaspari, elected Ambassador of the authenticity of Italian Cuisine in the world and currently working between Kenya and Maldives.
On Thursday 25th, the University of Embu, which recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Italian Cultural Institute to develop projects, conferences, courses and so on on the Italy-Kenya axis, will coordinate the meeting entitled "Innovation for a circular economy towards a sustainable agriculture" together with the University of Turin. Professors Mark Otieno, chair of agriculture at Embu, and Filippo Barbera, professor of Economic Sociology, will be the speakers (to register for the videoconference write to iicnairobi@esteri.it).
On Friday, it will be the turn of Italian "content creator" Gaia Dominici, who will present her experience of sustainable Maasai cuisine and, finally, World Cuisine Week will end in Malindi, with another live cooking event by chef Gaspari on the theme of the blue economy and sustainable fishing, to be held at Diamond Dream of Africa from 6 pm (by invitation only). During this week, many Italian restaurants in Nairobi and along the coast have adhered to the request of the Italian Embassy and will celebrate our specialties with special menus, special offers and traditional delicacies prepared especially for the event.
