Watamu, an increasingly international and modern destination

Thanks also to Roberto Lenzi's visions and initiatives

Watamu is now the tourist resort of choice on the Kenyan coast, that is no mystery, but that its internationality is making it one of the top destinations in the interests of those who not only love and will love to frequent it, but also everything that revolves around hospitality and vacationing, is a fact that jumps out at you and that some enlightened entrepreneurs are helping to nurture.

One example comes from Roberto Lenzi and his facilities, both the hotels (7 Islands and Crystal Bay Resort) and that fabulous aggregator of pleasures, between dining, the sea and events, that goes by the name of Paparemo Beach. Thanks to a draw like Paparemo, as is also happening with other locations in the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean," the destination is increasingly sought after by a diverse and upscale clientele.
Private parties of continental, Asian and European VIPs, weddings and concerts with top African stars are increasingly common. Paparemo himself recently hosted the party of one of Nigeria's most eminent tycoons, with big-name guests.

In recent days, Lenzi hosted the "Red Card Campaign," an initiative promoted by the Africa Regional Office of the United Nations Development Program (ARDN) that kicked off in 2019 during the Women's World Cup in France and is now circulating throughout African nations.
It is a campaign for gender equality, against violence against women, and to give more visibility and power to women's initiatives in Africa. It is no coincidence that Kilifi County was chosen to kick off Red Card across Kenya, and that Watamu hosted it with an exceptional godmother, Governor Gideon Mung'aro's wife, Susan.

The initiative, which takes its name from the red card that, as anyone who knows soccer knows, is shown to any player who has committed a serious infraction of the rules, and ejects that player from the field and calls for the same rule to be applied to those who disrespect women, is not only a moment of awareness-raising but also has its pleasantly charming side, that of the Fashion Show that in Watamu featured beautiful models who are the first "Red Card" testimonials, as well as ARDN ambassador Sharon Okubo, also a former model and New York graduate who has fully espoused the challenges for gender equality, violence and discrimination against women and girls.

Watamu's tourism growth and its integration into today's real world and its evolution also comes through these forms of intelligent and responsible entertainment capable of engaging governments, intergovernmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, business and sports, arts and culture.

"We are making Watamu a modern and international destination," Lenzi confirms, "that has all the credentials to attract important personalities and at the same time host young people who love the pleasure and opportunities of all-round vacationing, and less young people who take pleasure in attending not only a place of relaxation and beauty, but also a destination of attraction among the most popular not only in Africa. Initiatives like this and others to come should help make Watamu even more known to the world."
