There are oases in the world where an Italian finds his or her belonging, and does so in the sweetest and most mouth-watering way possible. Fragrant, soft and creamy islands that become appreciable stops for those passing through or pleasant habits for those who live not too far away. And then you realise that the specialities that bring you back to your home country also, and above all, attract locals and other foreigners.
This is the case of Roberto's Cafè, the new world of Italian flavours and excellence that has been added to the large Roberto's family in Nyali, after the well-known shop selling imported products, a reference point for national food and wine on the Kenyan coast, and the Roberto's restaurant and pizzeria, known for years for its excellent Made in Italy cuisine, pizzas and fresh pasta, among other things.
Roberto's Café, an ice-cream parlour and pastry shop on the first floor of the new Promenade Mall along Links Road in the resort town attached to Mombasa, not far from the restaurant, also opened a few weeks ago.
The oasis of delights has a wide variety of delicious homemade fruits, including ice cream, breads and pastries, and imports from our country, such as good coffee, tasty sandwich fillings and even beers, alongside local and fresh fruit juices.
The most fashionable Italian aperitif abroad, the spritz, is also extolled in this tricoloured gourmand den, and not just the classic with aperol, but with all its variations.
At Roberto's Café you can also stop for a sandwich worthy of the name, freshly made with homemade bread baked every day, with the best Italian cold cuts and cheeses and excellent fillings.
Also worth trying are the fragrant brioche, brownies and homemade tarts, as well as tiramisu and the special cheese cakes, both the one with caramelised hazelnuts and the one with berries. And from the inventiveness of its deus ex machina Roberto Miano, many tasty novelties are still to be expected.
The surprising new Italian restaurant is open daily from 10am to 10pm.
