It is now customary for our site to offer you daily the "war bulletin" of Covid-19 in Kenya.
Let's say that at this point it has become an almost mechanical practice because, beyond constituting at most a statistic to be read weekly to highlight the so-called "curves" of growth or decrease of cases or healings, it has however for some time now seen the same percentages that explain the important data, i.e. the incidence of positives for swabs analyzed, since the whole month of July attested on 10%, and that of deaths which fortunately continues to be very low, compared to global averages.
This does not mean that the virus is not widespread in Kenya, on the contrary, as the person responsible for the WHO country and number two in Africa in the World Organisation pointed out a few days ago, there would potentially be at least 3Â million people infected, but only just over 10% of them would be symptomatic.
For the rest, many unofficial deaths are stolen as diseases that usually have higher numbers (malaria, tuberculosis) and probably carry the aggravating factor of the coronavirus, but no one will ever know, because they occur in rural areas where there is not even the possibility of being hospitalized in a suitable facility and where the swab does not arrive in time.
But there is also another fact that stands out, and that those who live here perceive: many family members of the deceased take good care to transport their dear sick or dying to the hospital, for fear that, once discovered the presence of the virus in his body perhaps killed by another disease, all components and even those who came into contact with the extinct, may be quarantined and in turn tested, risking ending up in a health facility and having to pay for treatment.
So these official data are what they are, but we release them to you as they are provided every day at the press conference of the Ministry of Health.
Yesterday, Wednesday, July 15: 461 new positives bringing the total to 11252.
In the last 24 hours, 4261 swabs have been taken.
Declared cured and discharged: 51. Total 3068.
New patients died with Covid-19: 7, bringing the total to 209.
Majority of cases, as always, in Nairobi. Fire in the town of Machakos, 59 cases. In Kilifi County 6 positive, all in Kaloleni.
In Mombasa, for the first time in three months, only one case recorded.
Day data: 450 health workers have been infected to date.
