A sharp increase in the number of infected people in Kenya in the last 24 hours, compared to the 22 recorded on Sunday, estimating just over 1100 tampons. In an almost mathematical and inevitable way, with 2711 tampons the cases in the country in a single day are just under three times as many. It should be noted that this is the highest positive case in Nairobi in a single day, 52.
In yesterday afternoon's press conference, Monday 25 May, the Head of the Kenyan Health Department Mercy Mwangangi announced that 72 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 1,286.
"We also recorded 9 healings," said Mwangangi, "the patients were discharged and brings the total to 402, but unfortunately we must also report another person who did not make it, as a result of which deaths in the country have risen to 52. Of today's cases, 44 are male and 28 female, 52 cases were detected in Nairobi, 11 in Mombasa, 7 in Kiambu County, one in Isiolo and one, the first ever, in Turkana".
Updating the results in Afya House, Mwangangi confirmed that the total swabs used in Kenya since the beginning of the pandemic have risen to 61,719, while the Kenyan counties have at least one case of Coronavirus positive to 29.
Of the 72 new cases, 70 were identified as Kenyan citizens, while the other 2 came from Somalia and Uganda.
The high number of cases in Nairobi can be explained by a targeted swab operation in the districts of Lang'ata and Dagoretti North, where 21 and 15 positive cases were found respectively. The zero cases in the "Somali" district of Eastleigh should be noted, after the prolonged lockdown imposed by the Government.
Other isolated cases in Kibera, Kamukunji, Kasarani, Makadara and Mathare.
The Head of the Health Department also updated the situation of analysis laboratories across the country to handle the cases of Covid-19, which are 20 with 11 thousand trained health workers already in the field.
